Mosquito fogging continues Tuesday night in Winnipeg

Winnipeg is continuing its adult nuisance mosquito fogging program after weather made it impossible to go forward on Monday night.

The City of Winnipeg says it halted fogging due to high winds Monday night.

The program will continue Tuesday night at 9:30 p.m. and is expected to last until 6:30 a.m. Wednesday morning.

Winnipeg first activated its adult nuisance mosquito fogging program on Sunday after a spike was detected in bug populations.

The citywide rating on its Adulticiding Factor Analysis, which includes trap counts, moved from medium to high over the weekend.

Residents can apply for a 90-metre buffer zone in order to exempt their property.

The city says insecticide DeltaGard 20EW will be used in accordance with federally approved label directions and will be applied by licensed applicators.

The Manitoba government says on its website that the insecticide was approved in May 2017 in Canada for wide area mosquito control.
