What’s really going on at Toronto’s Pearson airport?

By The Big Story

Even if you haven’t been there, you’ve heard the stories. Every airport is troubled this summer, but Toronto’s may literally be the worst in the world.

We’re joined today by Richard Warnica, a business feature writer at The Toronto Star. After seeing his social media feeds fill up with horror stories from people travelling through Pearson, he decided to get to the bottom at what has really gone wrong at the airport.

“The airport, like other businesses in Canada, other businesses around the world, is facing a labor shortage—especially for these not-particularly-high-paying, socially difficult, physically difficult tasks,” he said.

While blame is passed from the federal government to the airlines to the airport authority and back again, what is actually behind the delays and cancellations? And what, if anything, can be done to fix one of Canada’s most important travel hubs?
