Girl walking service dog assaulted by man near Grace Hospital: police

Winnipeg police say a girl was assaulted by a man while she walked her dog in the Grace Hospital neighbourhood on Sunday.

Police say the incident occurred shortly before 8 p.m. on Meadowlark Place near Athlone Drive.

The middle-school-age girl was walking her service dog when she was allegedly grabbed by an unknown man, and pulled toward the street.

The girl later told police she told the man to stop, but that he continued to hold her arm. The suspect then reportedly kicked the dog.

The victim says she screamed and freed herself from the suspect. The mother, who was nearby, says she heard her daughter’s scream.

Police say the suspect was last seen fleeing toward the Grace Hospital.
