Man arrested for firing gun in Winnipeg’s Lord Selkirk Park neighbourhood

Winnipeg police (WPS) arrested 23-year-old man for allegedly firing a gun in the Lord Selkirk Park neighbourhood Saturday.

WPS received a 911 call shortly before 4:30 p.m. reported a man with a gun near Main Street and Euclid Avenue.

Upon arrival near the scene, WPS officers found the suspect, Damon Wyatt Mallet, standing in a yard in the 200 block of Austin Street and arrested him.

“Officers found a loaded sawed-off 12 gauge shotgun concealed on his person which was seized as evidence,” WPS said.

Mallett was charged with:

  • Discharge a Firearm in a Reckless Manner
  • Careless Use of Firearm, Ammunition, Prohibited Weapon or Device
  • Carrying Concealed Weapon Prohibited Device or Ammunition
  • Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
  • Possession of Loaded Prohibited or Restricted Firearm
  • Possession of a Firearm, Restricted/Prohibited Weapon, Firearm Part or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order
  • Fail to Comply with Condition of Release Order

Mallett remains in police custody.

None of the charges have been tested in court.
