Manitoba under heat warning over weekend
A heat advisory is in place across large segments of Manitoba.
Temperatures over the next few days are expected to reach between 30 and 40 degrees, with overnight lows of 16 or warmer.
The Manitoba government and Environment Canada are urging Manitobans to stay out of prolonged heat and drink lots of water to avoid heat-related illnesses.

Environment Canada says, “Extreme heat affects everyone. Heat illnesses are preventable.”
To try and reduce the health effects of heat they suggest the following:
- Plan outdoor activities during cooler times of the day;
- Take cool showers or baths;
- Take a break in a cool location;
- Stay out of direct sunlight and wear loose-fitting, light-coloured clothing;
- Drink plenty of water, even before you start feeling dehydrated;
- Keep your house cool;
- Never leave people or pets in a parked vehicle;
- Check on family, friends and neighbours, especially older individuals or people with health conditions;
- Watch for the effects of heat illness: swelling, rash, cramps, fainting, and the worsening of some health conditions;
- Watch for signs of heat stroke (which may begin with headache, hot skin, dizziness or confusion) and take action immediately.
If you or anyone starts feeling ill, confused or falls unconscious, call 911 as it might be heat stroke.
