Air Canada apologizes as some passengers mistakenly removed from Montreal flight

Air Canada is apologizing and says it is looking into a situation on one of its flights earlier this week that saw dozens of passengers removed from a plane in Montreal.
More than two dozen passengers were asked to deplane from flight AC866 on June 20 bound for London for what the airline said was “non-compliance with Canadian government mask regulations, Canadian Aviation Regulations, as well as directives of our crew.”
“Absolutely disgraceful,” tweeted one woman who said that 23 people were pulled off the plane at random including an elderly couple and a family of four.
Video posted online shows armed officers aboard the plane asking several people to leave.

While vaccine mandates in Canada for domestic and international travel have been lifted, mask mandate for travellers remain in place.
In a statement to CityNews 680, Air Canada says while it does not discuss incidents of disruptive behaviour onboard their aircraft, the actions taken were for the safety and benefit of the other 266 passengers on the flight. However, the airline goes on to say that some customers who were not involved were “unfortunately deplaned.”
“We have since reached out to those we have identified as mistakenly removed to apologize and address their concerns.”
