Winnipeg police say the human remains found while searching a landfill were identified as those of homicide victim Rebecca Contois on Tuesday.

Officials began searching the Brady Road Resource Management Facility three weeks ago as part of an investigation into Contois’ killing.
Contois was a 24-year-old Indigenous woman whose partial remains were found last month, on May 16, in a garbage bin near a Winnipeg apartment building.
Police said they learned some of her other remains may have gone to the landfill during a garbage pickup.
Remains were discovered at the landfill on June 14. They could not immediately be identified, pending an autopsy.
The Winnipeg police’s homicide unit is continuing its investigating.
A 35-year-old was charged last month with first-degree murder in the death of Contois.
