The Manitoba government has announced an additional $530,000 in funding for future flood mitigation.
The funding will be added to the province’s 2020 Mitigation and Preparedness Program (MPP), which benefits six municipalities and their projects to mitigate floods.
“Our government is committed to supporting not only the post-disaster recovery needs of municipalities, but also their capacity to prepare for future events,” said Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Doyle Piwniuk. “This innovative initiative, delivered through Manitoba Emergency Measures Organization, offers an important opportunity for municipalities to build local resiliency against natural disasters, extreme weather events and the impacts of climate change.”
Municipalities are able to apply to be reimbursed for eligible Disaster Financial Assistance (DFA) costs.
The province says, “a total of 18 projects received over $717,000 in support through the MPP. The six additional projects have now had their MPP funding amount finalized.”
The City Brandon and the municipalities of Cornwallis, Elton, Harrison Park, Ritchot, and Westlake-Galdstone were the six to receive the latest MPP funding.
