Winnipeg man arrested for animal abuse, cat needed to have leg amputated

A 32-year-old Winnipeg man has been arrested following an animal abuse case.

The Winnipeg Humane Society says it received a report from the man’s roommate saying a cat in the home was being abused.

Upon investigating, the humane society found the cat in the home with severe limb and facial injuries.

The cat was taken to a vet, where it was determined that due to the severity of the injuries, one of the cat’s legs had to be amputated.

Winnipeg police was also alerted to the situation by the Winnipeg Humane Society and through consultation with the Chief Veterinary Office of Manitoba, it was determined the suspect could be charged with animal abuse.

The 32-year-old was taken into custody, was charged and has since been released with the expectation of appearing in court.
