Woman carjacks security vehicle from Polo Park mall, strikes guard while driving away

A 21-year-old woman is in custody after allegedly carjacking a security vehicle at Polo Park shopping centre early Tuesday morning.

Shortly after midnight, a security guard was making his rounds when the suspect jumped on the hood of his marked security vehicle, Winnipeg police said in a release.

The security guard says the suspect then entered the vehicle on the passenger’s side. When the guard went to remove her from the vehicle, she allegedly shoved him to the ground, sat in the driver’s seat and drove away.

The suspect struck the guard’s arm with the vehicle while driving off.

Winnipeg police tracked down the vehicle to North End using the built-in GPS, locating it at McGregor Street and Mountain Avenue

The woman was arrested. She faces charges including robbery and possession of methamphetamine.
