Police seize 28kg of meth, arrest suspects from Winnipeg, Edmonton, B.C.

Five people in their 20s were arrested and large quantities of methamphetamine and fentanyl were seized as part of a months-long investigation into drug trafficking by Winnipeg police.

The Winnipeg Police Service says it began investigating crime groups and drug networks from other cities trying to establish themselves in Winnipeg last September.

In a release, police say those crime groups were directly related to a recent increase in gun violence in Winnipeg.

As a result of the investigation, three suspects were arrested in Brandon, Man., in November 2021. Officers seized 19 kilograms of methamphetamine, two kilograms of fentanyl and one kilogram of cocaine. They also seized $40,000 and a semi-trailer.

Two of the suspects were from Winnipeg. The third was from Surrey, B.C.

The investigation continued and Winnipeg police arrested two men from Edmonton. Officers seized nine kilograms of methamphetamine, eight ounces of fentanyl and around $100,000.
