Alleged assault on minor by RCMP officer being investigated by IIU

MANITOBA – An alleged assault of a minor by an off-duty RCMP officer is being investigated by the Independent Investigation Unit (IIU).

The IIU was notified of the complaint by the RCMP on Aug 31, of the alleged assault which happened on Aug. 18 in the west district. The complaint was received on Aug. 30.

There were no serious injuries, but the IIU civilian director has determined it is in public interest for the agency to investigate. The investigation is ongoing, and no further details are available.

The IIU investigates all incidents involving police officers in Manitoba, whether they were on or off duty.
