Man, 41, facing four charges in bomb threat hoax

WINNIPEG (CITYNEWS) – A 41-year-old Manitoba man has been arrested in connection with a bomb threat hoax directed at the Steinbach Court Office last month.
Christian Peter Jaques of Richer, Man., is facing four charges, including public mischief and obstruction of justice for an alleged bomb threat on July 30.
He is scheduled to appear in court Thursday.
Jaques reportedly dialed 911 and told police there was a bomb in the washroom of the Steinbach Court Office. The building was evacuated. A suspicious device in the washroom turned out to be fake.
“This was a reckless and dangerous act that was intended to disrupt and obstruct our justice system,” said Sgt. Paul Manaigre of the Manitoba RCMP in a release. “Our investigators will always do everything they can to ensure that anyone who attempts to intimidate our courts is held accountable.
“This threat caused the court building to close and required a number of police resources and other first responders to be on scene for an extended period of time.”
