City to continue mosquito fogging program

WINNIPEG (CityNews) – The City of Winnipeg will continue its adult nuisance mosquito fogging program July 6.

City crews will treat parks and open spaces around Winnipeg starting at 9:30 p.m until 6:30 a.m.

The following parks and open spaces will be treated by the City tonight: Assiniboine Park, Brookside Cemetery, Bunn’s Creek Centennial Park, Charleswood Dog Park, Crescent Drive Park, Fraser Meadow Park, Harbourview Park, Harte Trail, Kildonan Park, Kildonan Park Golf Course, Kings Park, Maple Grove Park, Marj Edey Park, Oxford Heights Community Centre, St. Vital Cemetery, St. Vital Park, and Windsor Park Golf Course.

The City is offering an automated telephone and email notification system. Residents who register for this service will receive daily phone or email notifications for adult mosquito control activities. Residents can register for notification online or by contacting 311.

All residents can apply for their property to be placed in a buffer zone. City crews will ensure that the sprayer is not treating within a 90-meter radius of a registered property.

Due to COVID-19, you may not register for a buffer zone in person. Buffer zone applications must be received through one of the following options:
• 311 online service request
• Email to 311@winnipeg.ca
• Fax to 311
• In writing to the Insect Control Branch at 3 Grey St., Winnipeg, MB R2L 1V2

The City is asking all property owners to eliminate standing water on their properties by taking one of the following steps:
• Dump It! – containers
• Drain It! – eavestroughing or unused containers
• Cover It! – rainwater collection containers
• Fill It! – low-lying areas
• Treat It! – biological larvicide
