WINNIPEG (CITYNEWS) – The search for nine-year-old Darius Bezecki came to a tragic end on Sunday when police located the boy deceased in the Red River.
Winnipeg police say Bezecki had entered the Red River on the north bank – near the Louise Bridge – around 4:30 p.m. on Friday. He was believed to be with his two siblings and a friend.

Three of the four boys managed to get out of the water, but Bezecki didn’t make it out. Const. Jay Murray said it was not clear why the children went into the water.
“It is incredibly sad, and the outcome no one was looking for,” said Murray in a release. “Our thoughts are with his family.”
Water rescue crews and a drone with thermal imaging technology were used to find the young boy. The search turned into a recovery mission by Saturday afternoon.
