Charges after death of three-month-old

WINNIPEG (CityNews) – Winnipeg police have charged a man following the death of an infant.

Emergency services responded to a call in the Lord Roberts neighbourhood on Jan. 11, where they found an infant and began first aid.

The three-month-old was transported to hospital in critical condition, but passed away a few days later.

“We began an investigation almost immediately,” Cst. Rob Carver stated.

The investigation determined the infant had suffered internal injuries.

Winnipeg police have charged 29-year-old Mathieu Moreau, with manslaughter and aggravated assault.

“The individual who has been charged was part of the family household,” Carver added, but would not confirm the relation Moreau had to the infant.

Moreau was not previously known to police.
