Apple planning to open office in downtown Vancouver: reports

By Ashley Burr

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Apple and Amazon could be new neighbours, as both are reportedly planning on opening offices in the next few years at the intersection of West Georgia and Homer Street.

NEWS 1130 Business Editor Richard Dettman says it may have something to do with who is in the White House.

“Canada has looser immigration laws that the United States and so it’s easier if you’re a tech talent person from another country to get into Canada,” he says. “But lately Canada has been seen as more attractive by some in the tech sector because of political issues in the United States.”

According to reports from Bloomberg, Apple is planning on taking over two storeys at a tower under construction on Georgia.

Amazon has taken over the old Canada Post building right across the street and is currently doing renovations. The updates are expected to be completed by 2023, involving a new tower with a mix of office and retail space.

The building that would house Apple is set to be completed in 2020.
