2 people dead in Prince Edward Street fire

Two people died in a massive early-morning house fire in Winnipeg’s Point Douglas neighbourhood, the Winnipeg police say.
An 11-year-old girl is one those feared dead, according to a witness.
The witness heard someone yelling out for help during the fire, saying that the child was still in the house.
Paramedics arrived at 2:16 a.m. on Friday to find the house on Prince Edward Street in flames, so much so that it was unsafe for crews to go inside.
“Firefighters were on the scene within minutes but couldn’t get inside,” United Firefighters of Winnipeg president Alex Forrest said.
Two people had already escaped the house before the paramedics arrived. One is in critical condition and the other is in serious condition.
Arson is suspected, Forrest says. “Three fires within a very close radius of the tragic fire,” he explained.
“Our prayers and thoughts are with the families and friends of these poor souls,” Forrest wrote on Facebook.
There is no word on what caused the fire at this point.
