Winnipeg man charged with allegedly setting fire in multi-suite residence

Winnipeg police say a 35-year-old man has been charged with allegedly setting a fire in a multi-suite residence.

WPS says around 10 p.m. on March 8, emergency crews responded to a report of a fire at an apartment along Furby Street.

Fire crews were able to evacuate the residence before attacking the blaze and bringing it under control.

Police say that through an investigation, it is believed that the fire had been set for an unknown reason, which forced the residence to fill with smoke.

WPS says 35-year-old Lyndon Thomas was taken to hospital, where he was treated for smoke inhalation, and was taken into custody following his release from hospital.

Thomas has since been charged with arson with disregard for human life.
