12-year-old boy found dead after Portage la Prairie house fire

Police say a 12-year-old is dead after a fire at a home west of Winnipeg on Sunday morning.

RCMP say the boy’s body was found inside the home on 8th Street Northwest in Portage la Prairie.

Authorities say two adults and five children had escaped the home with “relatively minor injuries.”

They let an officer know the 12-year-old had not made it out of the home, police said.

First responders were called to the scene around 4:40 a.m. to find the house fully engulfed in flames.

The cause of the fire is being investigated.
