Province looking to strengthen Manitoba businesses through new investment

On Wednesday it was announced the province and federal government would be investing $159,000 into Duha Color Services Ltd as it brings new jobs to the province. Morgan Modjeski reports.

Against the turbulent backdrop of tariff threats and economic uncertainty, Manitoba’s government says it’s investing in local businesses to try and keep our province strong.

“We know that when companies like Duha grow, so does our province,” said Jamie Moses, Minister of Manitoba Business, Mining, Trade, and Job Creation.

“By investing in people, by supporting innovation, our government is helping business modernize.”

On Wednesday, Moses announced the province and federal government would be investing $159,000 into Duha Color Services Ltd.

“For more than 75 years, Duha has called Manitoba home,” said Rick Duha, the chief business officer of Duha Color Services Ltd.

Duha is the world’s largest producer of paint swatches and colour charts, and the new spending by the government will support facility upgrades and train 136 workers. That’s after it acquired its largest competitor in Indiana-based Colwell Color Ltd., with workers and equipment now coming to the province.

“We’re about halfway through. We have more equipment arriving this week, so the room you’re in right now was actually warehousing space six months ago,” explained Duha.

Duha said Manitoba was the best place for the major move.

“We made a deliberate choice to bring these jobs home because we see Manitoba as a strategic advantage.”
