The North Point Douglas Women’s Centre is looking for Halloween costumes and snacks, in an effort to make the spooky holiday more accessible for children living in Winnipeg’s North End neighbourhoods.
North Point Douglas Women’s Centre helps people to cover their basic needs, usually relying on community donations.
Earlier this month, the list of goods in demand changed to candy and costumes.
“We have received some great donations like decorations, so we’ll be able to spruce up our space. And make it super spooky and festive. But we are still looking for donations of candy. This is for the kids. In Halloween. So they have a place to come and participate on Halloween,” said Melissa Chung-Mowat, the executive director of the North Point Douglas Women’s Centre.
Executives say it is not the first time they have done programming around holidays. But this year, they decided to do something different to bring the spooky season to the North End neighbourhood.
“We have such a great community here and folks know our centre and they feel safe here. So it’s an opportunity for families to come here, to a place where they can have a great atmosphere and I think it means a lot to add to that experience on Halloween,” said Chung-Mowat.
Donations will be available for anyone attending programming on October 31.
