Fellow in Yellow arrives in Winnipeg in cross-country run promoting mental health

Trevor Redmond, aka ‘The Fellow in Yellow’, passed through Winnipeg on June 26th as part of his coast-to-coast run raising money and promoting a healthy lifestyle. Eddie Huband reports.

Trevor Redmond, aka the Fellow in Yellow, made his pit stop in Winnipeg on Thursday, as part of his epic cross-country run to raise money and promote healthy living.

“When I was 15 I was struck by a car and almost lost my leg, so inspired by my own recovery and seeing the recovery of others, I decided to go out, back then at the age of 53, now 54, and go out and move this country, move across this country, create the movement for movement,” Redmond explained.

The run began in Halifax in March 2024, with Trevor running from community to community. At night, he usually camps or gets put up by people offering their homes along the way.

“We really do have to encourage people to get out and exercise their bodies, their minds, their spirits.”

He says he wants to eventually make it to Vancouver Island, spreading his message everywhere he goes, while also raising money for Dollar a Day Foundation in support of mental health programming.

“To Dollar a Day, this year I’ve given them $11,000 about, and I’m getting ready to give them much, much more,” said Redmond.

Junel Malapad, a well-known Winnipegger for his own running activism, saw Trevor’s story on social media and jumped at the chance to support and get in a few kilometers running with the Fellow in Yellow.

“If someone’s doing this in my city, I make it a point to try and meet these wonderful people,” said Malapad.

“These are the micro things that we need in our lives right now. Positive micro experiences instead of negative things that come down our social media and things like that, so for me, this is really special.”

Info on how to support the journey can be found on the Fellow in Yellow’s Facebook page.

“I really want people to move, and my motto for this is the more we move, the more we move others, so I’m out to encourage people to show their courage and grow their courage,” said Redmond.
