Winnipeg police looking for suspect after unprovoked machete attack Friday morning

Winnipeg police are looking for a man following a machete attack on Friday morning.

The WPS says officers responded to the Health Sciences Centre after they received a report that a man had walked into the hospital with serious injuries.

Speaking to the 56-year-old man in the hospital, police learned that around 4:15 a.m., the man had been walking along Ellice Avenue near Beverly Street when he was attacked from behind by someone believed to be armed with a machete.

Following the incident, the man made his way to the hospital with life-altering injuries.

Police believe the attack was unprovoked, noting the man did not know his attacker.

The man suspected of the attack has been described as 5’10” and was wearing a dark hoodie and blue jeans at the time.
