Vacant North End home to be demolished after 3rd fire since 2022

By News Staff

A vacant building in Winnipeg’s North End was scheduled to be demolished Saturday after a third fire in two years.

The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service says the vacant home on Stella Avenue near McGregor Street was slated for “emergency demolition” after the structure sustained “significant water, smoke and fire damage.”

The WFPS says crews were called to the home Friday around 9:40 p.m. and arrived to find “heavy smoke and flames.”

The blaze was declared under control at 11:47 p.m. The cause remains under investigation.

The same home was damaged in a fire three months ago, and another in August 2022, according to the WFPS.

“If residents see someone actively entering a vacant structure, or removing boards from windows or doors, they should report the incident immediately by calling the Winnipeg Police Service at 911,” the City of Winnipeg advises.

“Anyone who sees that boarded windows or doors have been breached, but did not see someone actively entering or attempting to enter a structure should report the incident to 311.”
