Winnipeg police say a 25-year-old man has been charged after bear spraying eight people, including a toddler and a baby near Young Street and Ellice Avenue Monday.
WPS says around 5:30 p.m., officers responded to the area of Young and Ellice, where they were able to find six adults, and a toddler and a baby who were both with their mother, who had all been bear sprayed.
Police were told that while everyone was walking in the area, a man sprayed the bear spray and ran off.
Officers searched the area and found a man matching the description provided by the individuals who were bear sprayed.
The man was taken into custody after a short foot chase. Police also note a taser was used.
After the man was in custody, officers were able to seize an empty can of bear spray.
Twenty-five-year-old Tiren Dettanikkeaze has been charged with six counts of assault with a weapon and possession of a weapon.
