Construction begins on St. Vital bridge; major traffic delays until 2024

Drivers can expect major delays on Dunkirk Drive as construction begins on the St. Vital bridge.
Starting at 9 a.m. on Wednesday morning, Osborne Street and Dunkirk Drive from Jubilee Avenue to south of the Kingston Row access roads will be reduced to one lane.
The construction will take part in multiple phases, which will first work on the southbound portion of the bridge, which will switch to the other half of the bridge later in the year.
During the first phase, pedestrians will only be allowed to walk on the east side of the bridge. For vehicles, there will be reduced lanes as well as lower speed limits through the construction area.

The $52 million project is expected to run through part of 2024, and will see the bridge resurfaced, a wider pathway on either side of the bridge, improvements to the pedestrian tunnel, better traffic flow and safer crosswalks.
The city encourages drivers to take Pembina or St. Mary’s as alternate routes.
