Nearly 350 Ukrainians fleeing Russia’s invasion of their country are expected to touch down in Manitoba on Monday.
One of three federally chartered flights from Warsaw, Poland to Canada is set to land at Winnipeg’s airport in the afternoon.
The charter is expected to leave from Warsaw with approved applicants under Canada’s emergency travel authorization for Ukrainians.
Millions of people have fled Ukraine since Russia invaded at the end of February.
Upon arrival in Winnipeg, the refugees will be taken to Manitoba’s Ukrainian Refugee Reception Centre.
There, officials are tasked with helping them coordinate things like a place to stay, obtaining a driver’s licence, work and schooling.
Since April 15, the reception centre has welcomed 360 people from Ukraine, and that number is expected to skyrocket over the next few weeks.
