Canadian Mennonite University warns of data breach in cyberattack

Canadian Mennonite University (CMU) said that a cyberattack on its IT systems has exposed sensitive information of students, staff and alumni.

The Winnipeg-based institution says data stolen includes addresses, social insurance numbers, employees’ information going back to up to 11 years.

CMU learned of the breach on Sept. 18 and reported to law enforcement. The school says it will also be filing a report with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.

The university it will be offering credit monitoring for affected individuals for two years to protect against identity theft.
