Manitoba introduces net zero action plan

Manitoba has unveiled its first Net Zero Action Plan, backed by more than $350 million in planned investments over the next three years.
The plan includes more than 90 actions aimed at putting the province on a path toward net-zero emissions by 2050.
“Together, these actions will help cut emissions today while building the foundation for future emissions reductions that are going to keep us on track until we hit net zero by 2050,” said Mike Moyes, Manitoba’s environment and climate change minister.
Some of the actions in the plan include:
- Providing $55 million in grants to support businesses, First Nations, farmers and more to reduce emissions and support long-term decarbonization
- Establishing interim greenhouse gas emission targets by this fall
- Extending the Manitoba Electric Vehicle Rebate Program and expanding charging stations throughout the province
- Investing $7.6 million in continuing support for sustainable agriculture
“Reaching the goal of net-zero carbon emissions will require flexibility, so this action plan is built to be flexible,” said Moyes. “We look forward to hearing from Manitobans on this plan. We will review and update the action plan annually to ensure real progress continues to be made and make adjustments as new opportunities arise.”
Manitoba first released its net zero plan last October.
