Man accused of punching, kicking 67-year-old woman who was waiting for bus: Winnipeg police

Winnipeg police say an 18-year-man has been charged with assault after a woman was kicked and punched while waiting for a bus in the city’s West End last month.
The Winnipeg Police Service says the 67-year-old woman was assaulted sometime in August, without specifying when. They say she contacted police on Aug. 20.
It allegedly happened at the bus stop at Portage Avenue and Craig Street, in the city’s Minto neighbourhood.
Police say the woman was sitting on a bench waiting for a bus when a man approached her and laid down on the bench beside her.
“The woman turned away and was minding her own business, when the man physically assaulted her by kicking and punching her,” WPS said in a news release.
She sustained upper-body injuries but did not require medical attention, according to Winnipeg police.
Police say the woman got on a bus and the suspect followed her. Authorities say he was “kicked off the bus for causing trouble a short time later.”
A suspect was arrested Monday afternoon at a home on Margaret Street.
An 18-year-old has been charged with assault and was detained in custody.
