Dauphin ER reopens after 2 months of repairs from flood damage

The provincial government has reopened the emergency department at the Dauphin Regional Health Centre Monday as repair efforts continue following severe flood damage from early July.
According to the province, the temporary emergency department will provide emergency services 24/7 and will operate on the main floor of the facility using temporary power, water and other infrastructure while crews continue to work on other areas of the hospital.
In a statement to CityNews, Prairie Mountain Health (PMH) said, “This incredible milestone is the result of the ongoing, focused efforts of clinical teams, operational staff, contractors, engineers, government and municipal partners, and many others who have been working tirelessly to restore services in the existing Emergency Department space while ensuring safety remains a priority.”
PMH also said the outpatient lab and diagnostic services are set to reopen on the hospitals main floor Tuesday morning.
Doctors Manitoba president Dr. Alon Altman welcomed the re-opening of the ER.
“Physicians appreciate the ambitious direction from the top to reopen the ER in Dauphin, and we thank everyone for their hard work in making this happen,” Altman said, in a statement to CityNews.
“We also want to thank the physicians and hospital staff in Ste. Rose have supported the patients of Dauphin over the summer.“
Altman added that the reopening of the Dauphin ER was a major step towards restoring essential health services in the community.
Doctors Manitoba is consulting physicians in Dauphin and surrounding communities about which hospital services should be prioritized to brought back to the city next, he said.
