Manitoba RCMP says a 42-year-old woman who was facing charges in connection with a theft has been re-arrested after she allegedly forged a doctor’s note to miss court.
Mounties say they were informed on Aug. 31, that 42-year-old Amber Fisher, who was scheduled to appear in court, had submitted a doctor’s note indicating she was unable to attend after being seriously injured in a motor vehicle collision.
The note alleged that the collision happened on July 22. It was given to her lawyer, who submitted the document to the court, and it was accepted by the courts, postponing her Sept. 2 sentencing hearing to a later date.
Following this, a Crown attorney contacted RCMP, which opened an investigation.
Through the investigation, police were able to determine that the note was a forgery, and officers were also able to determine that no reports had been made involving Fisher being in a collision on July 22 in Manitoba or any other province.
Fisher has since been charged with obstructing justice, forgery, and uttering a forged document.
