Winnipeg police say a man was confronted by security after allegedly trying to leave a store in the 600 block of Sargent Avenue without paying for merchandise. A physical altercation spilled outside, where police say the suspect stabbed the guard with a sharp-edged weapon before fleeing.

The guard was initially in critical condition but was later upgraded to stable.

Police arrested 23-year-old Peter Edwin Morrison Black Saturday near Sherbrook Street and Ellice Avenue.
