Winnipeg police say a 36-year-old man is facing charges after over 60 boxes of contraband tobacco were seized from a home on Aug. 4.
WPS says around 2:30 p.m., officers were investigating another matter at a home along Sherbrook Street when they allegedly found a large amount of tobacco products.
The investigation was then taken over by the Property Crime Unit, which obtained a search warrant for the home.
WPS says that while officers were waiting for the search warrant, a 36-year-old man who lived at the home returned and was taken into custody.
The following morning, WPS was able to execute the search warrant, and officers were able to find and seize nearly 3,000 cigarette cartons (roughly 600,000 individual cigarettes) and $1,500 in cash.
The 36-year-old man is now facing charges of possession of property obtained by a crime under $5,000 and trafficking in contraband tobacco.
