Fogging for West Nile virus mosquitoes in Winnipeg to continue Saturday night

The City of Winnipeg will continue fogging for a second night Saturday after the population certain mosquitoes double in a week.
The City says it is required to fog when trap counts include a high number of Culex tarsalis mosquitoes which are more likely to transmit West Nile Virus.
The following areas will be fogged Saturday starting at 9:30 p.m.:
- airfield Park, Richmond West, Waverley West, Waverley Heights, Bison Run, Bridgwater Centre, Bridgwater Forest, Bridgwater Lakes, Bridgwater Trails, Prairie Pointe, South Pointe
- Whyte Ridge
- Linden Ridge, West Fort Garry Industrial
Officials also shared several measures to protect onerself from West Nile Virus:
- Reduce mosquito numbers by getting rid of mosquito habitats around your home
- Reduce the time you spend outdoors between dusk and dawn
- The peak mosquito hours are around dusk and dawn, but Culex mosquitoes will also bite during the night
- Wear light-coloured, loose-fitting, long-sleeved tops and pants when outside
- Apply an appropriate insect repellent, according to Health Canada Guidelines and label instructions
- Check that door and window screens fit tightly and are free of holes
