Woman, 23, charged with murder in downtown Winnipeg stabbing

Winnipeg police say a 23-year-old woman has been charged with second-degree murder in the fatal stabbing of a 58-year-old woman downtown Tuesday.

The Winnipeg Police Service says it happened on Portage Avenue around 2:45 p.m.

The victim, identified as 58-year-old Helen Spence, was found by police with life-threatening injuries. She was taken to hospital in critical condition, where she later died.

A suspect, who fled the area before police arrived, was arrested in the early hours of Wednesday.

Shante Paul has been charged and remains in custody. The allegation against her has not been tested in court.
