1 dead, 1 injured in collision on Highway 8 in RM of Gimli

Manitoba RCMP says one person is dead and another was sent to hospital following a collision on Highway 8 in the RM of Gimli.

Around 2:40 p.m. on July 2, Mounties responded to a report of a two-vehicle collision on Highway 8 at the intersection of Provincial Road 229.

When emergency crews arrived at the scene, they found a sedan in a ditch that was heavily damaged and a pickup truck still on the highway with front-end damage.

It is believed that the sedan was heading west on PR 229 when it collided with the pickup that was driving on Highway 8.

The driver of the sedan — an 86-year-old man from Teulon — was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the pickup truck — a 48-year-old man from Niverville — suffered non-life-threatening injuries, was taken to hospital and has since been discharged.

An investigation is ongoing.
