Some Winnipeg students are home from school Wednesday after classes were cancelled due to Tuesday’s storm.
Collège Churchill High School, part of the Winnipeg School Division, was closed due to flooding and major water damage.
“Students and staff should not report to school this morning. Another update will be provided by 2 p.m.,” the division wrote on its website.
Some schools in the division remained open despite losing power, including their phone and internet networks. Those schools are Brock Corydon School, Greenway School, King Edward School and Norquay School.
Classes were cancelled at John Taylor Collegiate, part of the St. James-Assiniboia School Division, because of a power outage. Though Grade 12 students writing their math provincial exam were still required to attend school.
“Students will be moved to a classroom space with plenty of natural light. All other classes cancelled today,” the school wrote on its Instagram.
Thousands of Manitoba Hydro customers were without power Wednesday morning after strong wind and rain brought the risk of tornadoes in some southern areas.
