Siloam Mission CEO steps down just 3 months after being appointed

Siloam Mission’s CEO is stepping down after a tenure that lasted just three months.

The Winnipeg homeless shelter says Sonia Prevost-Derbecker’s departure is part of a six-month organizational support plan.

It comes amid increasing financial pressures, rising community need and operational challenges, the shelter says.

Prevost-Derbecker was announced as Siloam Mission’s new CEO on Feb. 19. She shared her long-term vision for the organization and various solutions when she was introduced to the public the following day.

In a news release Monday, Board Chair Tracey Silagy called it a critical period of transition for Siloam, with the increasing service demand and an extremely challenging fundraising environment.

Siloam Mission says recent operating support and grassroots private donations will allow their drop-in services to remain fully functional for an additional month, until a long-term funding solution is secured.

Siloam will have a temporary local executive support team in place for the next six months.
