A 15-year-old girl is facing charges after an American baseball team’s charter bus was set on fire overnight in Winnipeg.
The Winnipeg Police Service says officers were called and arrived to find the bus fully engulfed in flames around 1:50 a.m. Authorities say the entire bus and its contents were destroyed.
Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service extinguished the fire. There were no injuries.
“A bystander nearby observed someone inside the bus and assisted in removing them,” police said.
The team bus for the Kane County Cougars, a baseball team based in Geneva, Illinois, was parked outside Blue Cross Park, home of the Winnipeg Goldeyes.
The Cougars, which are on a short road trip, have been facing off against the Goldeyes in a three-game series this week.
Officers say two teenagers were taken into custody at the scene. Police believe the fire was deliberately set.
One of the teens, the 15-year-old girl, was charged with arson causing damage to property and possession of incendiary material.
