Winnipeg police say a 61-year-old man has been charged with allegedly luring and sexually assaulting a minor.
WPS says in May, officers began an investigation after receiving reports indicating that a youth had been sexually assaulted by an adult who was known to the youth’s family.
It is believed that the man provided the youth with a cellular phone and money and began to develop a relationship. This reportedly led to the youth being driven to a home along Burrows Avenue between March 31 and April 30, where they were allegedly sexually assaulted on numerous occasions.
It is also believed that the youth was threatened if they were to disclose anything regarding the incidents.
WPS says just after 6 a.m. on May 12, officers attended the home in question and took 61-year-old Mohammad Qasim into custody.
Qasim has since been charged with 19 offences, including child luring, sexual assault, sexual assault with a weapon, sexual interference, forcible confinement, and uttering threats.
Police say an investigation is ongoing, and if anyone has any information, they are asked to contact investigators at 204-986-6245 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-8477.
