Winnipeg woman charged for allegedly stealing 5-ton truck and injuring Mountie

Manitoba RCMP say a 42-year-old woman has been charged after allegedly stealing a five-ton truck and injuring a police officer.

Mounties say around 9:35 a.m. on May 7, they were informed that a five-ton truck had reportedly been stolen from a business in Winnipeg and was last seen driving south on the West Perimeter Highway.

Officers quickly responded and were able to locate the stolen vehicle and tried to conduct a traffic stop.

The truck did come to a stop near the intersection of Roblin Boulevard, at which point officers tried to engage the driver, however, during this time, the vehicle started moving again, and an officer and a police vehicle were hit.

Other officers who were on scene provided first aid to the injured officer before paramedics could arrive. While that was happening, the stolen truck fled the scene.

The injured officer did suffer non-life-threatening injuries and is recovering at home.

Police were able to locate the vehicle again, heading toward Oak Bluff, and tried to use a spike belt; however, the driver abruptly turned to avoid the spike belt and drove through the ditch onto a service road.

The vehicle continued to be driven toward the intersection of Highway 2 and Macdonald Road, where it reportedly collided with a school bus, that had no children aboard.

Following the collision with the bus, police lost sight of the stolen truck as it fled the scene, until Mounties received a report f a suspicious person walking in a field at the intersection of Road 50 North-East and Macdonald Road, just southwest of Oak Bluff in the RM of Macdonald.

Officers were able to locate the suspicious person around 11:15 a.m., and were able to confirm that it was the person who was believed to be driving the stolen truck and took her into custody.

Since, police have charged 42-year-old Tara Kaminski from Winnipeg with nine offences, including assaulting a police officer with a weapon causing bodily harm, theft of a motor vehicle over $5,000, flight from police, and driving while prohibited.
