Man charged in connection to thefts after being found in hidden room inside Dauphin home

Manitoba RCMP say a 48-year-old man has been charged and a 35-year-old man is facing charges after police allegedly found weapons in a home while trying to execute an arrest warrant.

Mounties say around 12:20 a.m. on May 3, officers attended a home for the purpose of executing an arrest warrant on a man who was wanted for multiple theft-related charges.

When officers arrived at the home, they reportedly announced themselves before entering the home, where they found a man who said he was alone.

Following this, officers continued to search the home with the assistance of the Dauphin Police Dog Services, and were able to find a hidden room behind a false wall.

Once inside the room, officers reportedly found various weapons and a trap door, which led to another hidden room. Around 20 minutes after this, a man who was in the second hidden room surrendered himself to police and was taken into custody.

Since, 48-year-old Jayson Mcdougall, of Dauphin, has been charged with resisting arrest and possession of a dangerous weapon. Mounties note that her was previously charged with possession of property obtained by a crime over $5,000, theft over $5,000, possession of property obtained by a crime under $5,000, flight from a peace officer, and two counts of failing to comply with an undertaking.

The other man — a 35-year-old from Dauphin — was also taken into custody and is facing charges of obstructing police. He was released on a promise to appear in court at a later date.
