Winnipeg woman assaulted, robbed downtown while helping overdose victim: police

Winnipeg police say a woman was assaulted and robbed downtown last month while trying to help a man believed to be overdosing.

The Winnipeg Police Service says it happened March 19 shortly before 5 p.m. on Logan Avenue and Main Street.

Authorities say the 45-year-old woman spotted a collapsed man believed to be overdosing, and she attempted to provide aid.

Police say as she was calling 911, she was allegedly physically assaulted by a man and robbed of her cellphone and smartwatch.

She sustained minor injuries and was cleared by the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service.

The WPS major crimes unit is looking for a suspect described as five-foot-10, with short hair and clean-shaven, and neck and hand tattoos. He was wearing a black jacket and black jeans.
