Winnipeg police and Manitoba RCMP are warning the public regarding the release of a convicted sex offender who is believed to be a high risk to re-offend.
The Manitoba Integrated High Risk Sex Offender Unit (MIHRSOU) says 52-year-old Burton Randy Thomas was released from the Stony Mountain Institution on Tuesday after serving time for breaching conditions of a long-term supervision order.
Thomas’ conditions stem from a previous sexual assault conviction in April 2010, where he was also designated a long-term offender.
Police say his criminal history includes sexual offending and violent offending, noting that he is still considered high risk to re-offend in a sexual/violent manner against women, despite participating in some treatment programs.
Thomas has been described as six feet tall, weighing around 200 lbs., with black hair and brown eyes. He has tattoos of webs on his right and left elbows, a spider on his right and left forearms, and playing cards and a gun on his right upper arm. Additionally, he also has scars on his left wrist, neck, jaw, and forehead.
He is also known to go by Thomas Randy Burton, Randy Burt Thomas, Burton Ron Thomas, or Jake Blake Wasaho. He is expected to reside in Winnipeg.
If anyone has any information regarding Thomas, they are asked to contact the MIHRSOU at 431-489-8056, Winnipeg police at 204-986-6222, your local RCMP detachment, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
