Charges upgraded to attempted murder after man struck by vehicle twice in Winnipeg hotel parking lot

A man arrested last October after another man was struck down by a vehicle has seen his charge of assault with a weapon upgraded to attempted murder.

The Winnipeg Police Service says the 51-year-old suspect was re-arrested Tuesday to face the upgraded charge on the advice of Manitoba Prosecution Service.

He has since been re-released.

Winnipeg police say a man in his 40s was struck by a vehicle in the parking lot of a hotel on McPhillips Street in the early hours of Aug. 3, 2025. The victim was transported to hospital in stable condition.

Investigators believe the suspect and victim, who did not know each other, got into an argument in the parking lot.

“As the victim proceeded to walk away, he was struck down by the suspect vehicle,” police said in a news release last year. “The victim managed to get up but was hit a second time before the suspect drove off.”

The suspect was arrested Oct. 9, 2025, and charged with assault with a weapon, dangerous operation of a conveyance causing bodily harm, and uttering threats.
