Winnipeg man in custody following aggravated assault involving firearm

A 20-year-old man is in custody following a shooting at a hotel in downtown Winnipeg.
On Friday, the Winnipeg Police arrested the suspect in the 700 block of William Ave. for his alleged involvement in a shooting at a hotel in the 300 block of Kennedy Street.
At approximately 3:30 p.m., Central District General Patrol officers, with assistance from the Tactical Support Team, responded to reports of a woman who had been shot by a male suspect inside a hotel bar. Both individuals had left the area before officers arrived.
Investigators determined the suspect and the victim, a 32-year-old woman, were inside the hotel bar when a verbal dispute escalated. Police allege the man shot the woman in the upper body. Despite suffering serious injuries, the woman left the hotel before police arrived and later made her way to hospital for treatment. Police said the two were not known to each other prior to the incident.
At about 7 p.m., the suspect attended hospital seeking treatment for a gunshot-related injury. Officers quickly identified him as the suspect in the hotel shooting. He was taken into custody and turned over to the Major Crimes Unit, which assumed the investigation.
The 20-year-old man has been charged with aggravated assault, discharge of a firearm with intent, pointing a firearm, unauthorized possession of a firearm and possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm with ammunition.
He remains in custody.
