Winnipeg firefighter uninjured after falling through floor at under-construction house

A Winnipeg firefighter fell through an opening in the floor but was uninjured while battling a blaze Sunday night at an under-construction house near West Kildonan.

The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) says a “mayday” was briefly declared after the firefighter fell, but “crews quickly rescued them.”

The WFPS says the firefighter was assessed by paramedics and deemed uninjured.

Fire crews responded to reports of a fire at a vacant, two-storey house under construction on Plover Place at 9:14 p.m.

They arrived to find heavy smoke coming from the house.

The blaze was deemed under control at 10:28 p.m.

No occupants were found and no injuries were reported.

The fire is under investigation.
