Winnipeg foster parent re-arrested for allegedly assaulting a child in their care

Winnipeg police say a foster parent has been re-arrested for allegedly assaulting a child in their care.

Police say in September 2025, officers began an investigation into an alleged assault after receiving a report that a child was injured in the north part of the city.

The child was reportedly taken to hospital in critical condition and sustained life-altering injuries.

Police report that three other children were also taken to hospital for medical assessment. One of the three showed signs of being assaulted and was in stable condition.

Over the course of the investigation, the WPS child abuse unit took over and learned that between Sept. 17 and 18, the child who was critically injured did not receive immediate medical attention. This led to a 25-year-old woman and a 26-year-old man into custody and later charged.

Police say as their investigation continued, the 26-year-old man was taken into custody again, and has been charged with assault with a weapon and failing to comply with an undertaking regarding another child who reported being assaulted while in his care.

Police note that, as the matter involves children, the accused in this matter has not been named to protect the identity of the youth victims.
